CANAMBU (Cuba) On stage: 7 + 2 crew Touring period: Summer 2012 Based: Cuba Booking territory: Switzerland What makes this band so beloved? They partially use instruments made out of bambou cut by themselves in the backyard of their village San Luis, some 25 kilometers out of Santiago de Cuba, thus generating a very special and unique sound. The band plays traditional Son, but also guarachas and boleros. The show with these primitive instruments is unforgettable. Cañambú, the soneros del bambú, played in different local and international cuban festivals. They also performed succesfully in the Feria Caribeña in Cancun-Mexico and were invited to an international music festival in Martinique and in the cuban television. All band musicians were born in San Luis, where they are still living, near extensive fields of cañambú. There, where their ancestors were inspired to compose the music, which they slightly ironically call 'the music factory'. |
